2回目なのに、Part7で3問も間違える・・・TOEICって恐ろしい。

私が間違えたのは、この1問。
131． Noted author neha Dehuri will be signing copies of her critically acclaimed book, the Forgotten, on Sunday at the Gloucester University Bookstore.
これは、副詞＋分詞＋名詞の順番さえ押さえれば即解答できます。
分詞は名詞を修飾する働きがあるので同じ働きをする形容詞ととらえ、
副詞＋形容詞（的な働きをする分詞）＋名詞の順序と同じだと思えばいいですね。
私は後ろのacclaimed book 「高く評価された本」を見逃して、名詞を選びました。
しかも、選んだ名詞は、critics「評論家」・・・。
選択肢には、他にcriticism（名詞）「批評」、 criticize（動詞）「批判する」がありましたが、
なぜ私はcriticsを選んだんだろ。
ちなみにcriticallyはveryの意味。
他に以前間違えたものも、覚える為に書いておきます。
116．Residents of Alberta Falls were promptly notified of the increase in snow-removal fees.
語彙問題。
選択肢は、
A) shortly
B) promptly
C) busily
D) currently
これ、私は初めて解いたときはshortlyを選んでしまったんです。
なぜか・・・
Thank you for arranging your busy schedule on such short notice.
急なお願いにも関わらず、お忙しいスケジュールを調整してくださりありがとう。
というon such short notice「急な通知で、急な依頼にも関わらず等」を思いついてしまったから。
でも、shortlyは実際はこのように使います。
①He will arrive here shortly. 彼は間もなくここに到着します。
このshortlyは「間もなく、すぐに」の意味で、未来形と共に使います。
②We moved to Japan shortly after I was born. 私が生まれてすぐに、私たちは日本へ引っ越した。
このshortlyは後ろにafterやbeforeを伴い、「～してすぐに」、「～する少し前に」という意味になります。
よって、この問題文にはshortlyは使えないんですね。
120. In yesterday's third-quarter financial statement, Vargas Industries reported a 15 percent gain in value.
昨日の第3四半期の財務表で、Vargas Industriesは、15パーセントの利益を報告した。
他の選択肢には、gainの他にbenefitもあり、初めて解いたときはbenefitを選びました。
様々な辞書で調べると、
benefitは、「an advantage that something gives you; helpful and useful effect that something has」という事で、おそらく「何かから得られる恩恵」の事を意味するのだと思います。
お金に関していうと、
「an advantage that you get from a company in addition to the money that you earn.」
（稼いだお金以外に会社からもらえるもの）とあったり、
「money from an insurance company」（保健会社からのお金）とあるので、
追加してもらえるお金（何かの恩恵により、支給されたお金）を意味するのだと思います。
例）I can see objects far away because of the benefit of the contact lenses.
コンタクトレンズのお蔭で（恩恵をうけて）、遠くのものが見られます。
一方gainは、「an increase in wealth or resources」とあるので、「お金や物理的な利益」だと考えられます。

今回間違えた3問をもう一度見直します。
173. What is Not mentioned about Addison May?
(Addison Mayに関して述べられていないのは？）
A)Its products will carry the Ashland Foods logo.
→本文
The Addison May name and logo will still appear on the front of its packaging.
本文と食い違う為、A)が正解だと分かります。
B) It is an international company.
→本文
With the acquisition of Addison May, Ashland Foods expects to become an even bigger global competitor....
「Addison Mayの買収によって、Ashland Foodsはさらに大きなグローバル企業となる事を期待している」
この本文から、Addison Mayが国際的な企業だと分かります。
C)It produces desserts.
→本文
The company is known for its Meals for Two line of frozen dinners, as well as for its Bakery Delights line of frozen pastries.
Bakeryという文字があります。通常Bakeryはパンやケーキを指します。
そのため、「dessertと製造している」と言えるのではないでしょうか。
D)It has reduced its product line.
→本文
... and downsized its product line to 18 core products.
製造ラインをdownsizeしているという明確な内容ですね。
178. What is NOT mentioned about the town of Meadow Lakes?
（Meadow Lakesの街について言われていない事は？）

この本文を読んで、「Shoreline Playhouseは財政難に陥っている！」と分かり、
このShoreline PlayhouseはMeadow Lakesにあるので、つい、（A)は言われている事だと思ってしまいました。
しかし、聞かれているのはShoreline Playhouseではなく、Meadow Lakesについて！！
引っかかりましたぁ～・・・トホホ。
B)It is close to Mooreland City.
→本文
The opening of Field Theater in nearby Mooreland City meant that Shoreline Playhouse was no longer the only destination for area theatergoers.
（近くのMooreland CityでのField Theater のオープンは・・・を意味する）
これを読むと、近くのMooreland Cityとあるので、
この部分より前から読んでくると、どの近くかというのは「Meadow Lakesの近く」と分かります。
C)Its residents support its theater.
→本文
・・・・town residents raised a significant amount of money in donations through their Save Our Playhouse campaign.
街の住民は、「Save Our Playhouseキャンペーン」を通して、膨大な寄付金を集めた
D)It has had a theater for almost twenty years.
→本文
September 1 marks the beginning of the twentieth theatrical season at Shoreline Playhouse in Meadow Lakes....
181. What is indicated in the advertisement about Ms. Fowler?
私はorder formに書かれているのがretirement partyに対する注文書だったので、
D)She arranges corporate events.
をつい選んでしまいました。
「彼女は、社内イベントにも対応する」という訳だと思い込んでしまいましたが、
「彼女は、社内イベントを企画する」が正しい訳ですね。
彼女のケーキ屋さんは、確かに社内イベントにも対応するのは事実ですが、
彼女が社内イベントを企画する事はありません・・・（当たり前だよね）
答えは、（C)She meets with her customers personally.
本文では
The owner personally consults with each customer to come up with a concept and design.

このようにレビューしてみると、
大抵は、大切な情報の読み飛ばしか、読み間違え（思い込み）で不正解になっています。
満点を取るには、
絶対に読み飛ばさず全部読む。
自分の正解の根拠は何か、自分が出した正解は本当に正解なのかを疑う
この2つが大事な気がします。
本番まであと少し。もう少し復習したいと思います。
